It is August 15, 1945, and the war is over. Beryl knows it will soon be time to put aside her life as a WREN and seek another kind of life outside of the military. Even though her childhood sweetheart has been lost to the tanks in North Africa, she knows that James would want her finally to move past her grief and get on with life. Tonight she will join friends for a celebration at The Ship Tavern and toast the Allies who have returned peace to London. Who knows what future adventures await?

Beryl peers into her wardrobe beyond the uniform that has been her constant garb for too long. There in the back is an old friend. Despite some small damage, her favorite dress waits faithfully to be returned to service. No problem. The wear is easily concealed, and the draping still flatters her supple waist. This is not an end for either of them. It is the beginning of a new life.

This gorgeous chocolate brown (it photographs lighter than it is) synthetic dress no doubt has many stories. The bodice drapes from the shoulders into a vee, and the wide midriff has an inverted vee that mirrors it perfectly. The midriff had sustained damage when I found it. I resolved the problem by reinforcing the entire midriff with organdy in the interior, giving the mid-section body and strength. I then added a wide leather belt, included with the purchase), but there are other options such as pinning a brooch over the hole. I have photographed the exterior view. The dress is unlined. Two small pinholes (pictured) have been stitched and are barely noticeable. The front of the skirt is draped and creates an amazing silhouette. There is a side zipper. The white mannequin shows through the fabric. There is no discoloration anywhere.

There are no labels, but I estimate it to be a modern 8/10. The fitted waist is 29"-30". The bodice could accommodate a bust of 39" While the Beryl shows signs of wear, she is still extremely wearable. She waits patiently for her own new beginning.
