A big morganite cocktail ring. She goes by the name of Lucy.

Sweet Lucy. We affectionately refer to her as Big mamma. I'm usually drawn to rose cut stones, but I have a super soft spot for morganites, they are just so pretty. I cast Lucy in 18k gold using the lost wax method. After casting, I dug to the bottom of the quench bucket to find her, she was so heavy, just a chunky piece of gold. I gave her a rustic finish to contrast with the sweetness of her pink color stone. Lucy's stone is 6mm and weighs in a hair under 1 ct. She is so sparkly and beautiful. Her band is a chunky 3.3 - 3.5mm wide.

△ Lucy's band is not perfectly round so she is in between sizes. On the ring stick, she measures as a size 6, but she is a little bigger than that. I have a size 6 finger and she is loose. I would say she is between a size 6 1/4 - 6 1/2.

I made a rustic little wooden box for her.

△ Morganites are one of my favorite gemstones. They have a very strong energy and is said to resonate with the powerful vibration of Divine Love. Often referred to as pink beryl, they belong to the same family as emeralds.

To care for your morganite, use dish soap and water with a soft toothbrush to scrub the stone. Rinse the soap off and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

I select each stone individually, some may have tiny imperfections but they are so sweet and lovely to me, it reminds me of the journey they've been through.

A little about how your ring was made.

Lost wax casting. I begin by creating a wax model of your ring. I then make a mold of it with plaster. After it sets, I place your mold into my kiln for many hours during which the wax is melted out. Next I melt your gold and spin it into the mold using a centrifugal casting machine. It is then quenched in water, there is a mini explosion as the hot flask hits the water and your plaster mold is destroyed. Now for my favorite part, I dig to the bottom of the bucket to find your little gold sculpture. I'm so happy, your ring is ready to be cleaned, textured and finished. This may seem a bit extreme for a simple gold band, but I love the organic softness which is created by wax.
