This is a Tau Cross (or Cross of St. Francis) in white and transparent purple fused glass. The white really stands out against the purple (aka violet). When backlit, the purple glows; when against a solid surface, it is a deep, rich color.

This cross is about 5 1/2 inches tall and 5 inches wide, and is about 1/4 inch thick. I fused a stainless steel loop into the top and added a green, cotton cord for hanging.

While the Tau Cross has ancient origins, St. Francis adopted it as a symbol for his order because it resembles the monks' robe with outstretched arms. It was used prior to that as a symbol of Roman, Greek, and Sumerian gods.

From the Prayer of St. Francis:

make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Frequently asked questions about AzureFire

I work in a non-smoking house with cats. If you have other allergy or chemical-sensitivity issues please contact me through Etsy's Conversation system.
You can hear the sound of a representative sample of my wind chimes on my blog at: http://azurefireart.blogspot.com
People are naturally curious about the durability of glass in wind. I take extra care with the glass pieces to keep them strong. I have had them out in heavy winds on the Oregon Coast without breakage, and I've gotten no reports over the years of any problem. Of course, glass can break, so I recommend taking them down during high winds. Be sure to hang them securely so they cannot fall of the hook they are hung on, and place them so they won't bang into any hard surfaces, and don't drop them.
If you would like your order sent to a different address than your own, please temporarily change your ship-to address. Otherwise if I need to change the address, there could be additional charges, because shipping is calculated based on location. I am happy to enclose a gift card: just let me know what you would like written on it. I enclose a packing slip with each order which does not include prices.
