This is an art quilt on canvas of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, also known as the Lily of the Mohawks, who is the patroness of the environment and ecology. Blessed Kateri is the first Native American to be declared Blessed. She was beatified in 1980 by Pope John Paul II. Blessed Kateri will be canonized as a saint on October 21, 2012.
Her feast is celebrated on July 14th.

This art quilt was constructed using batik fabrics. Then I sewed beads to the fringe of Kateri's clothing. When the quilt was finished I sewed along the edges of the quilt with wool yarn. Then I hand sewed the quilt onto a canvas I painted using Shiva Paintstiks.

Canvas size is 9" X 12" with a 1 3/8" profile.
