This book contains some incredible images reproduced with great care and technique and these really captures the nature of Sudek's talent and art. His work has a dreamlike quality to it and it fits perfectly that his first love was painting before he became one of the great masters of photography in the 20th century. His work was not well known outside of Czechoslovakia, and then as happens to the great ones, people take notice. Sonja Bullaty was his friend and assistant so she was the perfect person to gather this amazing collection and give us insights into the mind of Sudek. Anna Farova wrote the introduction. Easily this book is one of the best photography collections of the early 20th century masters.

This book, out of print, now will continue to grow in value but once you own this, you'll probably find it hard to part with it. Great for a rainy day, to get lost in the dreamlike quality of many of his photographs or have fun using it for inspiration - there is so much to learn, and it's so exciting going down that endless road grabbing a tidbit here and there.

This copy is a stated first edition. It is rated good. There is some minor sun damage to the front DJ causing the vertical edges to lighten. The gilded lettering on the cover is still shiny and majestic looking. I've seen some copies where the gold has completely worn away. The heavy stock inside pages have an intended subtle beige appearance and there is minimal if any tanning of the edges. The pages are fingerprint free and the only real blemish inside is the binding is showing it's age although still intact. Spine is straight. This is a wonderful copy at a great price.
