This vine is very much loved by hummingbirds and very easily grown. It is related to Morning Glories, but the flowers are much smaller, slightly under an inch in diameter, and produced in abundance. It likes full sun, and grows vigorously to a height of 20 feet or more. It may become invasive in warmer climates, self-sowing readily, wherever it grows. It is not particular about soil, and should not be overly fertilized, as it will tend to produce more leafy growth and fewer flowers. It appreciates support, but if that is not provided, it will not hesitate to climb into shrubs or over other plants.

The Latin name is Ipomoea hederifolia, which refers to its ivy shaped leaves. I believe this particular strain is the variety, lutea, called 'Pumpkin by the person who gave me the seeds. Typical lutea is a simple, plain yellow, but this one is more richly colored, with a red ring in the center, and the reverse has hints of orange.

Packet is designed by me with my own photos, cut out and folded from cardstock. Packet contains 25 seeds collected from my garden this fall. The vines were grown without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Planting instructions included.

Hummingbirds simply adore this flower, enjoying the yellow forms just as much as the typical orange red ones. They are all over it from mid summer, onwards, in my western Pennsylvania garden.

As of mid October, I have a matching hummingbird feeder for sale, which would make a nice companion purchase.
