My grandma used jars such as these for home-made strawberry jam or leftover 'pot-au-feu' (stew), but they are very versatile: you can use them for storage, as flower vases, or just for display.

Basically, they are the French equivalent of a Mason jar, but they close with a metal clip.

They come in two sizes and they have a lovely name: 'Le Parfait' (The Perfect).

The 1-litre (2.1-pint) jar is embossed:
on the top: "Bocal à ouverture instantanée", "Le Parfait "Super"", "Breveté S.G.D.G"
on the side: "Niveau de - remplissage", "Le Parfait "Super"", "V.M.C - Reims",
on the bottom: "Made in France", "1l"

The 350-millilitre (0.7-pint) jar is embossed:
on the top: "Le Parfait", "Breveté S.G.D.G"
on the bottom: "Le Parfait "Super"", "VMC-Reims", "350", "France"

Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The metal hinge of the 1-litre jar is a bit rusty

Size:
18x15x12cm (1-litre jar)
9x9x11cm (350-millilitre jar)
