Always one of my favorite gazelles, the Thomson's is especially enchanting with it's lovely chestnut fur with bold black and white stripes. I've used an earthy stoneware clay that fires to a beautiful warm brown. I built this piece over a paper armature so it is hollow inside and a litter lighter weight. I've only enhanced the natural color of the clay with a wash and have hand painted the stripes in a velvety matte glaze. I've tried to give it a carved appearance reminiscent of African art. This is a bust of a gazelle, therefore there are no fragile legs and it appears to be kneeling. I wanted a modern minimalist look.
4 inches tall by about 4 inches long.
