Victorian Era Hat - Hand Sewn by Anna Worden Bauersmith (F7)

This hat was inspired by the Sailor's Hat in Madame Demorest's Mirrors of Fashion 1862. It has the round dome crown and narrow flat brim, encircled with a blue silk ribbon. Placed at the side, instead of the straw anchor in the original description, I added a trio of straw leaves, made by me. This is the first hat trimmed with straw embellishments I made.

The crown of this hat is 19" around the inside; it will sit high on an average size head.

About my straw & drawn bonnets:
I use an assortment of real straw plaits including a whole straw plait, a fine Italian straw plait, and an English black straw plait. I block my hats and bonnets on original millinery blocks and hand carved blocks.

My bonnets are sewn by hand from the tip forward, with 100% cotton thread. Because they are few hand-sewn, there can be some asymmetry in each bonnet. Each bonnet is wired with 22 or 19 gauge millinery wire. The bonnet is then blocked and sized (or stiffened) with my own sizing.

I ship Priority Mail with insurance. Larger bonnets need to ship by parcel post as the boxes they safely fit in require a 'dimension charge' at the post office.

I try to keep my millinery affordable. Price changes reflect the cost of straw and other materials as they change, as well as fees.
