Sweet vintage antique medicine pill box tin from the 1920's or 30's in French & English by FAMILEX, Montreal Products Company, in butter yellow, red and black colors. FAMILEX was a famous Montreal company started in the 1920's by Roméo Parent on DeLorimier Street which sold to Quebec families many home and food-related products. Many housewives prepared meals with the cookbooks offered by the company as well.

This medicine contained leaf extract of the Belladonna plant (also named "Deadly Nightshade" - it says it all !) which is a very toxic plant. Belladonna berry juice was used historically in Italy to enlarge the pupils of women, producing a glassy effect on the eyes, giving them a striking appearance.

This little box is in beautiful condition, with only very few paint chips or wear outside, mostly around the closer in front where there is the remain of the old tape that sealed the box then.. Inside it is amazingly like new, no visible rust. In great condition for its 80 some+ years ! I love the french art deco feel of the company logo and typeface.

Measures 2 5/8" by 1 1/2" and 1/4" thick. (6.5cm x 4.5cm x 8mm)

Another Montreal collectible ! In french & English - though I love the fact that it still says 'Cold and GRIPPE (flu) !

Will be shipped with care in a bubble wrap sheet inside a bubble mailer envelope.

Thanks for looking
Val
