I think that anyone who falls in love knows that the heart symbol has the ability and power to convey a multitude of romantic feelings. Sometimes if the words elude us, the simple few strokes it takes to create a heart shape when communicating with another is all it takes to send loving thoughts...much like a visual embrace. I have chosen to showcase the heart symbol in a delicate etched and soldered shadow box adorned with antique found objects and, of course, bling.

I have had so many requests to teach my process and techniques in creating these little gems and have the pleasure of offering you my very first tutorial as a result. This tutorial is in a PDF format and includes 35 pages full of detailed step-out photos (81 in all), step-by-step instructions for etching with ferric chloride, the nuances of working with a micro-butane torch, soldering, cutting and shaping sheet metal, the wonder of patina, cold connections, working with antique rhinestone pieces, jeweler's grade epoxies and wire wrapping. I also share with you imperative safety tips, resources and my favorite tools for the job.

This PDF can be viewed on your computer as you progress through each step or printed out for an archival handbook. Please note that this Tutorial is for a PDF only. Jewelry depicted in this listing is not included.

Kits containing some of the supplies needed for this project are available in my Etsy store.

I hope you enjoy Heart to Heart and creating you own one-of-kind heart box!
