I paint the roosters of Kauai because I love their colors and personalities, putting them in part-real, part-fanciful environments inspired by the island’s lush flora. This is the latest addition. I found the proud model for this at Lydgate Park, along the ocean on the east side of the island. The print is based on an original painted with acrylic on masonite board.

Roosters run free all over Kauai. The most popular theory of why they’re everywhere is that their ancestors escaped during Hurricane Iniki in 1992, although cane workers kept chickens and related red jungle fowl were introduced from Tahiti long before.

Signed giclée print on heavy acid-free paper, printed with archival-quality ink.

(Copyright notice will not print on actual print.)

Care is taken in choosing an acid-free paper and archival-quality ink for greatest longevity and color fidelity. I want you all to enjoy these prints for a long time. In addition to these measures, I recommend keeping the prints out of prolonged direct sunlight, and using UV glass in your frame.
