South o the Border, Siesta Match Holder. Looks as though hand carved and painted, perhaps in time for Cinco di Mayo back in the 1940s.
Sombrero opens on a tiny hinge to place matches inside. No markings on bottom, just the letter "T" scratched into wood. Paint is in beautiful condition...deep scarlet red with blue, yellow and green accents on skirt of sleeping woman/man. Long black braids in back of figure. Space for matches measures 2.5" deep and 1" accross

Fantastic piece of wood carved folk art...and a unique gift for someone with a love for the culture.
