PLEASE NOTE: I will be on sabbatical starting February 2 through May 4 in order to replenish my stock for a three-day art festival (Brookside Art Annual 2015 in Kansas City ( taking place the first weekend in May. I have left my Etsy Shop open (i.e., not in "vacation mode") so that my made-to-order birdhouses remain visible in search results and orders may be submitted for a production schedule that will resume on May 5. On that day I will begin work on any orders submitted between now and then in the order in which they were submitted. Any birdhouses remaining from the art fair will be listed in the shop in the Birdhouses Available Now section. I will be posting photos of the birdhouses that will be on sale at the art fair (some of which will be one-of-a-kind pieces) on my Facebook page ( over the next couple of months as I make them. Thank you for visiting my Etsy Shop. Please come back.

This is a MADE -TO-ORDER item. CONTACT ME BEFORE ORDERING THIS BIRDHOUSE. The version I will make for you will be subject to the inherent variations of working with reclaimed materials, e.g., color and texture of wood and metal. Note roof design variations in the photos above. Contact me and I will let you know what material differences you may expect and the timetable for delivering your birdhouse. I may need as long as two weeks to deliver, but may be able to do it sooner depending on my work load. Following is the original description:

Artwork for an Asian-inspired or eclectic interior decor, this piece, like all of my birdhouses, is also functional and ornithologically correct and can accommodate most common backyard small cavity-nesting birds, such as finches, chickadees, wrens, nuthatches, warblers, and titmice, while the walnut portal extender and copper portal protector discourage larger birds and predators from enlarging the entrance. It has a rear clean-out hatch, copper-lined ventilation holes on three sides and a drain hole in the floor, as well as notches on the inside front wall to aid fledglings as they exit the nest. It is made from old barn wood (pine) from a barn built in Olivet, KS in 1914. The metal trim and roof are made of weathered metal roofing (burnished with steel wool and etched in copper sulfate to produce a copperish sheen) from another farm building in Lawrence, KS. The barn wood shows faded red paint. I have used a red gel stain on the cut edges of the wood used on the base and the roof. The horizontal wood insets are willow branches from a garden fence. The finial on top is made of barn wood inside a piece of vintage iron from some kind of farm machine (was not able to identify it) and an iron ring from a vintage iron planter. I have used silicon to insure that the roof is waterproof. All materials are carefully selected for their structural integrity.

Advice and instructions for hanging or pole mounting this birdhouse are included. See my other birdhouses at Visit my Facebook page at
