This very old vintage wedding cake topper features a bride and her groom in a soldier uniform.

Most cake toppers feature a groom in a tuxedo- this groom is wearing a military uniform, which is much more rare.

This couple is made out of some type of ceramic. It is solid rather than hollow and has the appearance of being carved white stone the slightly rough texture of hard chalk. Light barely shows through it. The figures are reinforced by wire armature inside. My best guess is that it is chalk ware.

The bride has a very graceful stance and is wearing an elegant white wedding gown with a short train and peplum that looks like 1930s or 1940s fashion. She has no veil and has light brunette hair in a bob.

The groom has a dark gray-green uniform with a long jacket and long pants with a crisp crease. He has a cap with a gold band and a dark brown belt and diagonal strap.

They are 4" tall. They are in very tattered and shabby condition, yes. But this couple is one of the most precious things I have ever found. I imagine they have more story and history to them than we could ever know. The base is broken off at the groom's feet and part of his feet are missing and the pieces lost (see photos) but even so, the topper is very stable. It was broken once across their legs and repaired. The brides head was broken and repaired but the wire reinforcement held it on, but there is a little chip out of the back of her neck so the wire shows. The paint on the groom is very chipped, almost completely gone on the back revealing the white underneath. The bride's white dress has some discoloring on the top and bottom areas, possibly due to age. A tiny bit of the wire armature is showing at the top of each figure's head.

But their faces- their faces are in much better shape, with very little chipping and their expressions and facial features are intact.

These imperfections are due to age and part of their history, and to me, they only make this treasure more precious. If you agree, make this couple part of your vintage wedding!
