:: Painted Desert Dreams ::

SALE: Reduced to $220, originally $280.

Another talisman to dissipate negativity and bring in light and bright energy, this woven necklace features an extraordinary drusy quartz from lapidarist Gary Wilson. One of the things that attracted me to Gary's work was the affinity he has with stones and unusual materials, and the way he will cut them to bring out their natural beauty. This pendant is a classic example, and I've never seen anything like it, even from Gary. An undulating landscape of sparkling crystals forms the front, while the sides are highly polished agate. The reverse (not shown, but I can provide an image on request) is another landscape of gnarled natural surface and polished grey agate. I had been working on the necklace for a while before I realized that the colors were those of the Painted Desert, especially around sunset when the entire world becomes luminous.

A "drusy" surface is one covered with tiny crystals. This drusy quartz has hundreds of miniscule points that wink and take your breath away when seen in sunlight: be sure to look at the close-up with the zoom feature. The quartz crystals are clear or tinted with the agate colors beneath...I'm not sure if this is Mexican Crazy Lace agate, but it has the same color range and botryoidal formation. On the surface you'll see rusts, mauves, ivory and dove grey. The sides display the same colors along with a deeper translucent charcoal. It's a very feminine, almost baroque crystal, but also wonderfully earthy.

Energetically, drusy quartz is very energizing and will brighten and intensify the energy of the mineral upon which it has formed. It's a great stone if you find yourself prone to negative thoughts and pessimism, a common pitfall in recent times. It will help dispel those thoughts and lift your energy overall, and combined with the soothing and grounding qualities of agate, this is a stone that just feels wonderful to be around.

The pendant has been set on a bail of rock-hammered copper wire, and two of my handmade copper beads sit on the woven strand just above it. Copper is a great conductor of energy. I found myself in a quandry when choosing stones to complement the drusy pendant: I had some tiny, hand-faceted tundra sapphire rondelles and briolettes that were perfect, except the size of the holes were far too small to weave onto the strand. My solution was to thread them onto fine copper wire and wrap them onto the strand after it was woven. There are also a few tumbled pebble beads of clear calcite with a light mauve dye woven into the strand as well.

Sapphire has a certain quality of strength that may be an expression of its extreme hardness. That stabilizing and strengthening quality is very helpful to have in times of transition. The energy of sapphire is a call to spirit, to rise above current circumstance and embrace a more spiritual conciousness and greater perspective. The soft cranberry, apricot, grey and clear shades of these stones have a more feminine energy as well, and seem to integrate a lighter, more playful quality into the usually-more-serious energy of sapphire. Calcite is a dynamic electrical connnector that helps you link into and connect with soul-level energies.

The cord itself is a light neutral brown nylon and is both durable and washable.

This pendant is beautiful both in energy and appearance! Definitely a talisman to brighten the dark passages of life.

Size: 19 1/2" or 45.5cm from the nape of your neck to the base of the pendant when worn. The drusy quartz pendant measures 2 1/4" x 3/4" x 5/8" or 6cm x 2 cm x 1.5cm.

Care: The quartz pendant is hard, but avoid hard strikes to protect the tiny crystals. The entire piece can be washed in mild fabric detergent and lukewarm water; do not scrub, and blot dry.

Painted Desert Dreams will arrive beautifully gift-wrapped in a hand-decorated pillow box, along with a hand-written descriptive label.
