RESERVED 05-13 DAN MCNEIL
Great vintage pair of English Equestrian themed bookends. Three dimensional handsome 'in tack' horse at a domed stall door, rinding croip & whip & horseshoe below. Original lable. 'Made In USA Syroco Syracuse N.Y.' (a company founded in 1908, creating high end look home decoratives). The technique: wood pulp, sawdust, glue, pressed tightly into molds, forming 'faux hand carved' ornamentals for the 'average home'. These book ends stand approx. 6 & 1/4 in. tall, 4 & 3/8 in. across fronts, 5/8 in. thickest point. The metal book plates are 3 & 5/8 by 3 & 7/8 in. The plates are screw-ons. So, if they get loose, you tighten the screws. If they ever get REALLY loose, you can unscrew, add glue, re-screw. A thoughful construction... these were meant to last. Condition: being old, well, a little age-evidence: one has little cofrner nips, at bottom. Other has 2 little chip flakes on the right side, BACK (not front). Being semi-wood, you can fill-in, 'touch-up', if you wish. The bases are felted.
