Give someone the world with this vintage 1940’s Replogle 12 inch Precision Globe. This Replogle Globe is from 1949, and features Gustov Brueckmann as the cartographer. This globe was dated using Replogles’ own information provided by their website.
http://www.replogleglobes.com/howOldIsYourGlobe.php This Replogle globes was made in Chicago, Illinois.

In dating the globe, we noticed that Replogle was reflecting the name change from Palestine to Israel which happened in 1948 and NOT showing the split of Germany, nor the name changes from Indo China to Vietnam and Laos. These changes happened in 1949 and most map and globe companies did not reflect the split of Germany until 1950.

The globe has wonderful, vibrant colors and features ocean currents, places of interest (like the Great Wall of China,) as well as a unique feature; Steam ship Routes. Later versions showed air traffic routes. The legend shows international, state and other boundaries, and includes other features like railroads, shelf ice, highways, to name a few.

The globe has flaws, which we have tried to reflect in the pictures, including some paper loss east of the Philippines, a crease and paper loss over the North Pacific, paper loss on the Equator (spotty all around) and general wear and discoloration in spots. Antarctica also has some wear at the base, where the axis joins the meridian. The globe rotates smoothly on its axis, although it squeaks when spinning.

The globe features an antique gold color half meridian, featuring the latitude degrees in block Art Deco font. At the North Pole, is a time dial, and is used to compare time around the world. The base of the globe is wood grained metal and shows some scratches. After WWII, globes began using metal bases again.

Vintage Globes, like ours, reflect a time before the Cold War and serve as a historical reminder of a different time. Globes can be an excellent way to introduce children to the world and are fun educational tools. They also make a stunning focal point used as home décor or grouped together as a collection.

We hope you love this globe as much as we do! Thank you for shopping and visit us again soon!
