Pair of Lovely, Dutch salt and pepper shaker figurines crafted by Ceramic Arts Studio of Madison, Wisconsin circa 1950. The two are in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. Both are signed on the bottom Ceramics Arts Studio. Betty Harrington hand crafted most of the designs for the studio.

The story of Betty Harrington is inspiring. In 1942, she visited the Ceramic Arts Studio and asked the owners to fire a figurine she had sculpted from clay found in her backyard. Recognizing her artistic talent, co-owner Reuben Sand refused a fee, but instead asked Harrington to model more figures. It was the beginning of Harrington’s career as a potter—in the next 14 years she designed more than 800 figurines for the company. They are wonderful collectibles today.

The pair stand 3 inches tall. The girl is wearing a traditional skirt and apron with a matching dutch hat. The boy is wearing a baggy pants and a double breasted jacket. Their detailed lovely faces are sweet and serene with rosy cheeks and lips and black lashes. The are a sweet pair!

Lovely collectible pair in excellent condition!
