This band is a bit of a strange occurance for us, but I kept it due to its history. This is a 3.1 mm wide domed wedding band. The inside of the band is hand engraved "JF to MG 11-18-15". The inside of the band is stamped 18K.

Now for the 'composite' part - the band is stamped 18K and we purchased it as a solid 18 karat band, but as I was taking pictures of it I noticed a deep crack near the engraving on the edge and it was very dark, so I soaked it in a tarnish removing solution (this usually fixes the problem) and it did nothing. Since the crack was so defined, I decided to do an acid test directly on the broken spot, and sure enough the contents inside the band are not gold. I am not sure what it is inside, but the outer layer is definitely 18 karat gold and it is very thick. I can easily guarantee there is at least 2 grams, most likely more, of 18 karat on the outside of this band. It was thick enough that we were able to polish it to a high shine and we still have not even come close to wearing through it. This really makes me wonder if the original owner knew this in 1915 or if he was swindeled :)

Sorry for such a long description, but I want to make sure that any buyer knows that THIS BAND IS NOT SOLID 18 KARAT GOLD, but is also is not plated or anything. It has a definite thick layer of 18 karat yellow gold. Due to this strange situation, we are just selling it to get back what we paid for it. If this band was solid 18 karat, we would be asking $300 (it weighs 3.6 grams). The ring is a size 4.75.
