Vintage Real Fur and Astrakhan Collar - Brown

This has in all probability been removed from a vintage coat (not by me!)
I estimate it to date from the 1930s or 1940s

Good quality soft brown astrakhan fur with another quality fur around the edges (I'm not sure which species - possibly mink? - please take a look at the photos and judge for yourself - I am not an expert on fur garments). Lined in a pinky-beige satin fabric

Dimensions (difficult to measure precisely due to curved shape): approx. 44.5" (113cm) in length (tip to tip) and approx. 7.5" or 19cm wide (at the widest point - i.e. at the back)

For restoration/repair - or perhaps for incorporating into a new project

The fur is basically sound and has no unpleasant odours etc. However, it has worn quite a bit at the tips (please see photos). The lining fabric is sturdy but a bit grubby - though it should improve with cleaning. The old stitching lines (where it was attached to a garment) are visible on the underside

For restoration/repair - or perhaps for incorporating into a new project. The worn tips could easily be concealed - perhaps with a dramatic vintage fastening or by sewing vintage ribbon at each end. This collar is crying out for a new lease of life and is worth spending a little time on. The fur is a beautiful quality

A note to those of you who dislike real fur products: I am not a great lover of fur myself but this item was purchased in a 'job lot' at auction. It has been salvaged from a vintage garment and I don't have the heart to dispose of it (I feel that would be disrespectful to the animal concerned). Hopefully someone else can provide it with a good home
