MID-CENTURY MICKEY MOUSE ALARM CLOCK

Gary Boydston hated rodents. It wasn’t because they were squeaky, scratching, disease-infested scampers of the night, no he hated them for an entirely different reason. It all started on his twelfth birthday back in 1957. Gary had just started his job delivering the morning paper for the San Jose Mercury News. He had to wake up everyday at 4:30 am to do his paper route so for his birthday, his parents gave him a shiny red and yellow Mickey Mouse alarm clock to wake him up each morning. After eighteen months of being startled from deep slumber by a clanging bell accompanied by being stared down by a crazed-eyed mouse with red shorts, yellow shoes and gloved hands, it isn’t too surprising that lasting repercussions have resulted. To this day Gary has deep emotional scars from that time of his life and is still plagued by a severe case of Musophobia. Needless to say you will never see him at Disneyland either.
