Silk "rods" are the by product of the silk cocoon reeling process. There are guide rods between the cocoons in the hot water and the reel the silk strands are wrapped on. During the reeling process bits of silk get caught around the guide rods. Every once in a while the silk around the guide rods are cut off. The cut off "rods" are about 1 inch wide, and vary in length. Some of the "rods" are fairly straight, some are all squished up. I have taken the raw silk "rods" and hand dyed them. This one ounce is varying shades of green. Some of the "rods" are mainly one color, while others are multi color.

What can you do with a silk "rod"? Besides being very interesting to look at, you can spin a very textured yarn, cut or pull apart and blend into spinning/felting batts, you can add "rods" to weaving, use in multi media projects, collages, embroider with fancy stitches and beads, make paper, and more.

I reuse shipping supplies: boxes, bubble wrap, packing, peanuts. "Soft" items are sent with minimal packaging. I ship by USPS.
