Sorry, this item sold. Have ArCaneLutherie make something just for you, or try these other items:
It has a very bright sound, almost mandolin-like, and can be played flat on the lap in the traditional mountain dulcimer manner, or held like a guitar. Very light, only weighs 1 pound!
This 1/2 size dulcimer is built from all solid woods, with a spruce top, maple fretboard, and some type of rosewood back and sides. I am not sure of the variety of rosewood, but it is a rich brown color, and very resonant.
The Custom options (at no additional charge) include:
Number of frets (classic + 6 1/2, old school diatonic, modern "2 1/2 +6 1/2", chromatic, ect)
Wood selection (within reason)
Number of strings up to 6
Regular model (pictured)
21" overall length, 6" wide
Uses standard loop end strings
13 Frets, with the "6 1/2" fret.
CBG pickup available for an additional charge, listed in my shop.
The tuners are zither pins, and it comes with a Clock Key Tuning Wrench. The zither pins help keep the weight down, and streamline the headstock. I have made several small dulcimers with geared tuners in the past, and it makes the instrument top heavy. Really, zither pins are the best for this! And they don't go out of tune if you bump them.
I have built many dulcimers of this model out of 1/8 plywood, under the name Octave Dulcimer, Travel Dulcimer and Backpacking Dulcimer. It is a solid design, and have occasionally make custom models for clients and neighbors out of solid woods, and they are so nice I thought I would offer them here.
