Shun the Nonbeliever three unicorns cross stitch, completed and framed in 2.5" round "woodgrain" flexi hoop

---The Story---

If you are a frequent traveler or you know one, you know how comforting it is to come back to a warm meal, a clean bed, and familiar surroundings.

During the Great Depression, traveling workers rode the rails looking for work. Because they weren't familiar with the areas they stopped in, they developed a symbolic language among themselves that would help them communicate quickly whether the communities they were approaching would be hospitable or hostile toward them and what they could expect from the homes and people there. The system of symbols included commentary on whether there were barking dogs, police nearby, a likely mark, or a kind woman who would offer dinner if she heard a pitiful story.

The 1930s were a long time ago, and we -- hobos or not -- have lost the ability to read these signs without translation.

That's why I've begun adding to them, with updated signs that are likely more familiar to us as digital world-travelers...for instance, with this sign symbolizing the shunning of a nonbeliever (in mountains of delicious candy).

---The Deets---

Like the classic hobo signs in my shop, these modern-day symbols will be stitched on oatmeal aida cloth and framed in a 2.5" round "woodgrain" flexi frame to mimic the fenceposts the sign would have been carved or drawn on in an earlier time (default), or a natural wood 3" embroidery hoop or secondhand frame if you'd like one of those instead.

*CUSTOMIZE: Other hobo signs are coming, as is a larger-sized sampler. Feel free also to convo me with suggestions for modern day or traditional traveler signs you'd like to see in the shop or on your wall or countertop. I love custom orders.

If you'd like 3 or more hobo signs, look for a custom order listing in the shop for a small discount!

*FRAME: Hobo signs will be framed in a 2.5" round "woodgrain" flexi frame unless requested otherwise ("contact seller" or use the drop-down list at checkout).

*SHIP: These receive ALMOST-free shipping with another item within the U.S. and will be sent USPS first class with delivery confirmation or international first class within 3 days of your order, unless I convo you otherwise. (Orders of multiple items may take longer, and please allow for delays during busy holiday seasons.)

*GIFT WRAP: If you'd like to have this gift-wrapped, please convo me or include it in the purchase order note, and I will wrap the stitch in plain paper with a notecard for you to put your "to" and "from" on -- or tell me who it's going to, and I can write it in on your behalf -- as pictured in the final photo.

---The Legal Stuff---

Obviously, classic hobo signs are not unique to me, but my design patterns are, and these modern hobo signs are entirely my creation. They patterns are copyright me, all rights reserved. Please don't copy them, and please don't pin them without permission!

But if you're interested in a particular pattern (or this set of patterns), let me know, as I'm in the process of digitizing and can prioritize your preference.
