Bowls, of any size, are probably one of my most favorite things to make in the studio. They are always just a bit of a challenge, even after 12 years of working in clay. For me, it is all about getting that perfect curve that is reflected inside and out and creating a form that feels both generous and containing. This current series of serving bowls have gotten a new update - decoration on the interior as well as the outside that is beautiful and tactile.

This bowl is 6" wide and 6" tall. It started as a lump of moist clay that was shaped on the potter's wheel, then trimmed and altered with a scalloped lip, notched feet and darted sides. Colored clay slip was applied with a metal-tipped squeeze bottle to create the floral motifs hanging from the lip on the inside with a fabric-like wrapping on the outside.

The bowl is glaze fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln in my home studio.

Glazes are lead free and food safe. I always advise hand-washing the work because of its delicate edges.
