This is a very early, rare and beautiful brooch made by Kenneth Lane in the 1960s.

This brooch is absolutely charming and lovable. The design of the seal is inventive and whimsical. It appears to be dressed for a performance, perhaps at a circus or for a fancy dress party, which is a lovely idea.

The seal's body is shiny and gold plated. The metal has a distinctive brushed texture. The fins and top of the head are set with bright, clear pave rhinestones. The beautiful, luminous eye is an emerald green glass cabochon. The three-dimensional bow around the neck is enameled in a shade of pale greenish-blue.

The design, craftsmanship and incredibly high quality materials are aspects of the best Kenneth Lane pieces. This brooch features a straight pin back with a rolling clasp.

The piece is signed on the reverse "K.J.L." in an oval cartouche.
