~French Vintage Short Jacket in Tulle...Exquisite

~~~~~~~~~~
How lovely is this?
When I find something so unusual and so lovely I can't help but wonder what other wonderful treasures are still hidden away in cupboards and armoires all over France. It is this kind of piece that gives 'things French' their reputation for refinement, elegance, and that undefinable but readily discernable thing called 'French style'.
This little jacket is made of the very finest tulle such as was often used for making babies dresses during this period , (1920s-30s)... and it is as simple as simple can be and yet wonderfully 'sophisticated.' This jacket was cut in one piece of tulle laid on the bias so that it hangs beautifully. The only seams are under the arms. The whole has been embroidered with stylized flowers worked in French knots and the edges are finished with a fine soutache all swirling and elegant.
I think this might have been intended as a summer bed jacket but now I think it would be that so hard-to-find cover-up for a summer party dress, or even I can imagine it over a very simple and sleek strapless wedding gown. Wear this jacket for the ceremony if you are a bride who would prefer to be a bit covered in church.
The measurements are: 20 inches long from back neck to hem, 29 inches when laid flat and measured from one sleeve opening to the other, and the sleeve openings measure 14 inches around.
Although we cannot assign actual sizes to these vintage items, we could say that this jacket because of its cut is of a small to small medium size.
Please carefully check your measurements against those we give.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This lovely little jacket is in excellent vintage condition.

It shows no stains and has only a very few tiny pin-prick holes which are truly lost in the folds.

I have gently hand-washed this piece so that it is clean and ready to wear.
