A fun, square handmade plate that will look great on your table as a lunch or dessert plate! The design is based on American and Mexican folk art - there's a house and tree, branches, a letter, heart and bicycle, all in a very dark blue and white. It's also a terrific display piece when not in use!

The technique that I used to decorate this plate is called sgriffito, which means that the surface is covered with several coats of slip which are then carved away, creating the image. It involves my first love, drawing, and some intense detail work, which I find fun and relaxing!

I made the basic form of the plate from a slab of stoneware clay. When the clay firmed up, it was then painted with slip and the sgriffito work was done. It was low-fired, then covered on the top with clear glaze and high-fired. The underside is decorated as well, but not glazed, and there are some small chips in the slip on the bottom of the plate.

I'll be listing two other plates with similar designs - they'd look great together!

Signed on the underside.

8-1/2" wide x 8" tall (okay, not quite square!) x 1/2" deep.

Dishwasher and microwave safe

We do our best to make sure nothing is damaged. In spite of that, if something arrives broken, please let me know immediately. Everything we ship has been insured, so please KEEP THE BOX AND ALL PACKING MATERIALS SO THEY CAN BE INSPECTED BY THE SHIPPING COMPANY!
Ceramic items are fragile, so of course I pack with this in mind. You know that once a package is out of my hands, it won't be handled with loving care until it reaches your door!

I buy bubble wrap, packing peanuts and box that are not available through USPS. I double box whenever needed, to add extra cushioning for multiple items and large pieces.

I'm a little wounded every time something I've made arrives broken and we strive to prevent that. This is why the shipping costs are so high.

Once the piece is packed and weighed, I will refund any shipping overcharge over $2
