Eddie Elephant, written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle, is so adorable that you may become weak from cuteness. This book was originally published by Volland in 1921, but after Volland went out of business in the 1930's, the rights to the book were purchased by Donohue & Company. This particular copy is a Donohue printing.

This cloth covered book is unpaginated, but is around 28 pages long and is 7.25 x 6 inches. It has lovely illustrated endpapers, 6 full-page illustrations and 11 partial-page illustrations. To say they are cute is an understatement.

The cloth exterior shows a bit of rubbing at the tips and spine, but is quite solid. There is evidence a young owner wrote on the back of the cover with a pencil, but it is not that apparent. The darker smudge you see on the cover above the title may also be a pencil mark that someone tried to erase.

The interior is clean and tight. There are no inscriptions, no other markings and no rips or tears. The pages have a bit of an old book smell -- not mustiness, but just the smell of old paper. It's not especially apparent when you handle the book in a normal fashion.
