This coffee table features some of the most interesting wood I have come across in my wood countertop business. We built a custom wine bar with this wood and I just fell in love with it.

What we have here is "wormy" maple. The species is standard red maple, a very common tree here in the Northeast, but what makes this wood incredible are the color variations in areas where the tree had been attacked by worms. The worms are long gone of course, but their work is evident in the greys, blacks, blues, dark browns etc and in the flame shaped pattern of the wormy areas. Amazingly this type of wormy wood is often ignored at the sawmill... because of the markings it is generally seen as unmarketable in the lumber industry. This particular batch was actually being sold as firewood. What a shame! Frankly the quality and uniqueness of this wood results in a table that beats anything you'd find from the high end catalog companies. It's a real beauty.

This listing is for the actual table in the photos. You will receive the table exactly as shown. The dimensions are 21" deep, 38" long and 15.75" high. If you need the table to be a bit higher we can use longer legs for a 17.75" finished table. The add'l cost for the longer legs is $25 for the set. The top is solid maple 1.75" thick, this is no flimsy veneer.

The legs are left in their natural steel color and clear coated.

The wood top has been treated with many coats of food grade mineral oil & beeswax for great moisture protection and a silky smooth feel. The oil & wax finish avoids that ugly plasticized look you get from a polyurethane, it is a totally authentic way to protect fine wood. There are any number of butcher block treatments available at hardware stores, you can use any one you like as they are all compatible. You should apply more treatment anytime the wood looks less than vibrant or feels a little dry.

Shipping via UPS is $60 to anywhere in the 48 states. The table will ship within a few days of sale.
