Hand pieced and hand quilted by an American pioneer, Leona Webb Roberts. She was born on February 14, 1896 in Chanute, Kansas where her family had migrated by covered wagon from Illinois. She delighted in providing all the hand made arts for her family and is lovingly remembered by her granddaughter as baking homemade pies for them just days before she died in 1996 at the age of 92.

Leona's granddaughter believes this quilt was made in the 1920-30's. The fabrics are all authentic to that era, slavaged from the clothes and textiles that had outlived their original purposes but too good to discard. The hand quilting is even and fine at 9 stitches per inch. It shows very little use which tells me Leona lovingly stitched it to be kept as a family heirloom.

Dimensions: 95 x 66 inches. The perfect size for a double bed or queen coverlet.

Condition: Very fine. This quilt is as soft as butter with that wonderful aged cuddly feel that makes you want to wrap yourself safely in its folds. The colors are still bright, the white is still white with no signs of wear or tear. Just beautiful with so much history.
