Have you ever seen the 1948 movie starring Moira Shearer called "The Red Shoes"? Well, I am fairly certain that these red steel toe pointe shoes are from that era....the late 1940's and probably inspired by the movie.

On the leather soles is stamped the maker's name "Chicago Theatrical Shoe Co." as well as the words "super-toe".

Aside from the uncommon faded red of the satin exterior of the shoes, the most unusual thing about them has to be the steel toes (see pictures) I have never seen another pair of ballet pointe shoes like these.

If you want perfection, these are not for you. However, if you love tattered, old, worn things and love to display unique items in your home, then these are right up your alley. They are extremely well used, with worn spots, marks and wrinkles, and only remnants of the red ribons that once were used to tie them onto the feet......have to wonder how many ballets they were in over the years? Who danced in them....perhaps a famous ballerina?
