David Rawnsley and his wife Mary started up the Chelsea Pottery studio in London in 1952. Styled as an 'open studio' - a place where any potter could come to work and learn - lessons were held in the evenings for amateurs with Joyce Morgan as the main instructor. The pottery is best known for its highly decorated earthenware, the colour of the pieces being achieved by the use of painting and coloured glazes - a technique that has been referred to as 'inlay and overlay'.

Dating from the 1960s this is a beautiful plate decorated with a stylized rooster design by Joyce Morgan (it is signed with her monogram). A highly decorative piece of retro studio pottery from a collectable pottery and designer.

Measures 11" x 10 1/4" x 2". Hand incised to the underside with "CHELSEA POTTERY" and marked with a sticker as well: "Hand made in England - Chelsea Pottery". Good vintage condition but for a couple small chips to the rim (image 3) and a large chip to the underside (image 5). Price has been adjusted to reflect condition.
