This listing is for a wonderful mid-century sculpture from Bertil Vallien's "Bagdad" series for Gustavsberg. One of Sweden's most famous designers, Vallien studied under Stig Lindberg, and designed ceramics for both Gustavsberg and Rorstrand. In addition, he was an accomplished innovator in glass design, and did groundbreaking work for Afors (later Kosta Boda.)

This piece also shows the playfulness evidenced by other Gustavsberg designers, such as Stig Lindberg and Lisa Larson. This sculpture is in good vintage condition -- there is a small flea bite in one of the cobbles on the side of the tower -- this is visible in the last two photos, and there is a small amount of rubbing on the base that obscures a portion of the Gustavsberg mark -- see the second photo -- this is very typical of this series.

Dimensions: 7" tall, base is 2.5" in diameter
