Twists of Ruby glass alternate with bold stripes of Aqua glass are combined to create this 3.25 inch hand blown glass Ornament. 12 individual pieces of glass are heated until they melt together. The results are an elegant, modern interpretation of a timeless classic.

In the process of making Ornaments such as this, glass rods called "cane" are made ahead of time. They are cut to the correct length and placed on a preheated metal plate. The metal plate with the glass cane are introduced in to a 2000 degree fire to heat up. A blow pipe is warmed and prepared with a very small amount of glass. When the glass cane reach the proper temperature, they are removed from the fire.

The blow pipe is touched to the very edge of the glass cane (which are now softened and fused together). the cane are then "rolled up" into a cylinder that extends off the end of the pipe. More heating and softening of the glass is done. The end of the open cylinder is closed off and the ornament is inflated to it's final shape.

While still hot, it is removed from the blow pipe and a loop is attached before being placed into the kiln for controlled cooling.

Stand Not Included.

Originally trained in a small studio setting, I have a broad history of working with many other world class glass artists. I have spent time as a Student at The Pilchuck School and have taught at The Studio in Corning, New York as well as across The United States and abroad. I currently own and operate a glass studio in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. My work is enjoyed in many private collections as well as public institutions.
