Graduation gift idea, Wood sculpture, log cabin decor, Oak Tree wood carving, Anniversary gift, gift for Mom, gift for Dad, living room art, rustic furniture accessory, Mothers day gift, bedroom decor, tree art, I named "Live Oak Ravine". It is a wall hanging depicting a steady old Oak Tree passing it's time in the woods on the edge of a small ravine. It has grown in a Heart shape around a rock in it's trunk. There are remnants of a tree limb that fell many years ago on the other side of the ravine. There is a lot of detail in this carving. it is one of my favorite Oak Tree carvings. It measures 16" tall x 12" wide x 1 3/8" thick. It has a lot of depth. These Oak Trees are the most tedious to carve and the most time consuming to make of all my carvings. But they are my favorite to look at and enjoy.

The technique I use is called Pierced Relief. It is carved out of one piece of wood and nothing is added. I have been carving since 1971 and a tree was the first carving I did. I have always been stimulated to carve a resemblance of a tree out of a tree. My technique has evolved over all of these years to what you see here. I keep seeing ways to make things more life like. And I love a piece to look like it is in the middle of a story that each observer can make up. Sometimes a different story each time we look at it and sometimes the same one. I love giving a piece the feeling of action. Sometimes tranquil and sometimes playful. I love it all.

I carved it out of a Big Leaf Maple Burl. The grain is really something to look at! A burl is usually caused by a trees reaction to an agro-bacteria. It starts sending out a huge number of buds showing birds eye grain through out the burl. It is very unusual and is very interesting to look at.

Frequently asked questions about TreeWizWoodCarvings

All of my carvings have a lacquer finish. Dusting with a feather duster or blowing off with a compressor is all that is necessary on the carved trees, fish and carved faces. I use Orange oil on the smooth surfaces. This will perk them up. I would do it as often as you polish your furniture. Once a month would keep them looking great but is not necessary.
I will contact you as soon as I get your order. I will package it that day or the next. I take it to the Post Office the next morning. If I get an order on Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday it will be in Monday mornings mail.
I use Priority United States postal service mail.
I do ship outside of the US. I need to know the carving that you are interested in and your complete shipping address. I will figure what it costs to ship to your address and make the changes to the listing so that you can make the purchase.
