Thank you for visiting my store.
I was inspired to turn this vase/urn from a porcelain sculpture that I saw and liked. I liked the idea of combining turning with a bit of carving and loved the flowing feel the work ended up with. I fashioned the opening from a lily. The urn is turned from a piece of box elder that had been harvested by a tree trimmer. Box elder, as you can see is a white/golden creamy color with some darker accents and beautiful flowing grain. If you look closely there is a bit of red in the grain as well as in the knots. This is typical of box elder. The wood is fairly light weight and easy to work with on the lathe.
The piece measures approximately 7 inches tall, 5 ½ inches at its widest diameter and 3 ½ inches at the top opening. I have finished the sculpture with a water based glossy polyacrylic which not only enhances the beautiful grain but is extremely durable. The urn can be used as a vase for dried flowers etc, or simply displayed as a beautiful piece of wood sculpture.
International Buyers. If you are interested in this piece I would be glad to obtain an exact shipping price for you. Simply write me.
Again, I really appreciate you visiting my shop.
