Stunning antique Elgin tri-color flower locket, no chain. Elgin began in the 1860s and is renowned for its outstanding watches--this locket has the same amazing quality no doubt! The locket features a tri-color design with a beautiful embossed nouveau-style flower motif over a lovely patterned background. There is a letter "P" in the very center of the design. The locket opens at the upper left with a small notch to reveal 2 round spaces for images inside complete with both original photo rings and coverings. One side has a darling period photo of a bathing beauty and the other is marked "Elgin American Mfg Co" followed by the serial number which appears to be 7273 under my loupe. The locket snaps closed securely and the backside is also monogrammed with the letter "P." The locket measures 3.5cm (1-3/8 inches) diameter not including the loop and attached non-functioning spring clasp. The metal is absolutely gorgeous (please excuse the reflections). It appears to be gold filled at the very least, but is unmarked/untested. Wear from over the years including light plate wear around the outer edge and heavy tarnish/discoloration on the inside of the locket--the inside could use a cleaning, I'll leave that up to you. A rare beautiful locket to be treasured!
