Welcome to the Benjamin Green Studio! Simplicity and function are the driving force behind my work in the Benjamin Green Studio; I enjoy using contrasting woods to highlight the simple joining techniques and natural beauty of the wood itself.

"Because each item from the Benjamin Green Studio is individually handcrafted, each has a personality reflective of the particular project and the respective strength, variation, and beauty of the wood used. Items are made to be functional, long-lasting, and pleasing to the eye."

People have been combing wool for a very very long time. And there are as many kinds of combs as there are people that make them. Combs range from teak wood combs with 152, finely sharpened, 12 inch tines, to bits of wood with nails jammed through them with a dowel rod for a handle. In the Benjamin Green Studio, I wanted to produce an item that would work well, look beautiful, and last a very long time.

When we comb wool, the idea is to align the fibers parallel to each other as they move from one comb to the other. This will never happen if the tines are covered in burrs, notches, or left over design features mean to cut through wood (like a nail), rather than pass smoothly through the fiber. However, even the smoothest of tines are useless if they wobble in the comb bed, or if the bed itself splits the first time that they are dropped or used a little roughly.

The Benjamin Green Standard Wool Combing Kit is made to be strong, functional, and economical. The 2 1/2-inch tines are spaced at 3/8-inch centers and deeply set into the comb bed for extra stability. The comb bed itself is a cross grain lamination of cherry and walnut that is designed to prevent cracking, adding strength and contrast. The 6” solid cherry handles are hand-turned for comfort and beauty, and pass entirely through the comb bed for maximum strength. Each comb weighs approximately 7.5 ounces (210 grams).

The innovative Comb Holder/Combing Pad combines the safety of having a way store the combs with the tines tucked neatly inside, with the functionality of a built in combing pad that clamps securely to the corner or side of most tables. (From ½ in. up to 1 ¾ in. thick)

When the combs are not in use, simply secure them in the holder with the Lock Pins, and clamp them safely inside with the table clamps. Be sure to store them in an area that is out of reach of any passing children.

Rest assured that if you so decide to purchase any item from “Benjamin Green Studio” we will be here to answer any questions that you may have now and in the future.
