This is a 16"x20" piece on wood. I used many layers of encaustic paint to build this piece up. It started out in a completely different way. I then used newsprint paper to make a base layer. I adhered this with wax medium and ironed it to fuse it. I used a cream colored encaustic paint over the news print. I used many layers of this color. The red stripe was added down the middle and fused to the base. I used layers of red to build this stripe up. After this was done I added the ledger sheets. One for each side. These are the Original documents. I fused these with encaustic medium to the base. I added a bird to each side for interest. The memo pins were added to the bottom and adhered with encaustic medium. I used an awl to incise the line on the top of each side. Black oil paint was added to highlight each line. I let the wax drips stay and the sides stay the same as they were with drips and awl. I feel like it adds to the piece and the idea of Imperfection being a beautiful thing.
