"In ships they came from Europe, across the salt sea / Come for the build and raise a colony / And in the jungle green their citadels did gleam / In tribute and homage to the old country / And soon their children grew and promised to be true / Orphans of an Empire their destiny." ― Johnny Clegg & Savuka, "Orphans of the Empire"

When I was a small child I found, buried in a flower bed in my front yard, a small shard of porcelain from an English teacup. I was enchanted, convinced there was some unknown story behind this lost and forgotten piece of the past. This set of five handmade stitch markers are made out of chips of handpainted porcelain, reminiscent of a begone era when the sun never set on the English Empire and teatime was de rigueur, even in the wild lands of the "heathen" colonies.

These stitch markers are the perfect gift for a tea drinker. The fine, polished teardrop-shaped porcelain beads have been delicately painted in a variety of flowers, leaves and other Chinese-style prints. You will receive a selection of these designs in a mix of colors that could contain blue, mint, turquoise, plum, pink, yellow, rust, and fern shades.

Each marker hangs from a hammered silver ring that is soldered to prevent it from catching on your yarn. The markers will fit comfortably onto knitting needles up to 6.5 mm (10.5 US), and are featured in the photos on needles of the same size.

Need crochet markers? These stitch markers can be turned into closed or open hook marker for crochet enthusiasts - just tell me in the Notes to Seller area when you check out which crochet style you would prefer.

Many of my stitch markers are designed from deconstructed vintage jewelry and reclaimed beads, for one-of-a-kind pieces that make great gifts and keepsakes for knitters.

Frequently asked questions about LadyDanio

Many of the items I create are handmade at the time of purchase, and the time it takes to put your order together can be anywhere from 3 to 7 business days (10 calendar days).

Don't know when your order is due to ship? Select "Purchases and Reviews" under the drop-down menu in the right hand corner of your screen. There you will see your order and if you click on "Receipt" you'll see the estimated date your order is due to ship.

I'll do my best to meet these shipping estimates, but cannot guarantee them, especially during high ordering periods. Actual delivery time will depend on the shipping method you choose. See my shop policies for more details on shipping.
I'm happy to make free repairs to stitch markers that have fallen apart from being worked hard and well-loved. Just send me any damaged markers (don't forget the important pieces, like the beads because I'll need those!) and I'll restring, rehang, and make them as good as new. Then I'll send them back to you free of charge.
Miniskein sets are handmade at the time of your order. Multiple sets may be purchased - just message me if you'd like a larger quantity then what is currently available in the shop.

Pictures of the miniskein sets are a representation of what you could receive from my collection. For those miniskein lovers who'd like to see what some of the yarns they are purchasing look like, take a peek at the full skeins in my Mini Made Flickr photostream: www.flickr.com/photos/ladydanio/sets/72157628409098037/
Please note that my items come from a smoke-free, cat-friendly household. Though my cat does not play with my products (she is totally bored by the knitting process), be aware that a wisp of stray hair could make its way into your package.
I describe and photograph my products as accurately as possible using a Panasonic DMC-LX7 camera with a Leica macro lens in natural lighting.

Due to variations between monitors, your personal monitor settings, minor variations of daylight, color filters, or the uniqueness of the products themselves, the items you receive may vary slightly from the photos you see.
Yes, I offer wholesale options for LYSs and yarn clubs. I currently have stockists across the US, Canada and in Europe. Please contact me for more information.
