19th century, date marked on back (2nd photo), ice box latch, beautiful piece, heavy cast brass, iron backing....handle swivels up and down to about a 45 degree angle...either brass or bronze , I'm leaning towards bronze...1st photo is upside down, it just took a better picture that way...

My Aunt Neuma owned an Antique mall in the Berkshires for 30 years. When I was a little munchkin I'd visit the "Buggy Whip Factory," and go dealer to dealer asking questions, and building a foundation of Knowledge for these various items. Before long I was in love, and quickly learned that I was drawn to the unusual, ornate, gothic, figural, unique, and rare. I still venture out to Estate Sales, Flea Markets, and Antique Shops looking for treasures.
