07217: During the first half of the 20th century, machine-made matelassé bedcovers became very popular. They were usually sold as a woven length in 2-person or 1-person bed sizes. The 20th century matelassé covers were a woven jacquard cotton that were inspired by the early boutis from the Marseilles region.
This mid-20th century bedcover has a wide border with a central motif of cartouches and flowers.
Overall good condition. The knotted and tasseled fringe shows a little age.
This could be used as a throw on a bed or over a chair. The French like to use vintage bedcovers and light-weight quilts as decorative table covers.
68" wide x 78" long
