A reflection and result of my experience sewing hundreds of waterproof cloth potty training pants, every step of this DIY is described, illustrated, and/or photographed.

If I can do it, you can do it.

Instruction and pattern are in PDF. Within 24 hours of payment received, link and password will be provided in an message through the email associated with your etsy transaction for you to download the files (Horray! No more attachments to fill up your inbox space). I may follow up with you before sending the PDF if I see measurements may be off.

This pattern is for children with thigh round size under 16".

Information needed from you to deliver this order: your child's thigh round size, waist round size, and rise. Height, weight and age information are optional, but helpful at times.

How to measure: Use a tape ruler measure your child's thigh round size at top of thigh, waist round size just under belly button, and rise from belly button through the crotch and up to natural waist, following the conture of the fanny, without diapers or thick clothes on. Please leave measurements in "Note from seller" section when check out or in conversation if you missed it.

Materials needed:
Inside next to skin lining fabric – cotton flannel, muslin, or micro fleece 1/2 yard
In between absorbent material – 1 microfiber terry towel 16” x 16”
(Outer) waterproof PUL 1/2 yard
Outer print fabric (optional) – flannel 1/2 yard
Soft velcro tape 5/8" wide - 1/2 yard

One yard fabric can produce at least 3-4 pairs of pants. Always feel free to contact me if you have questions if the materials are right or where to find them.

Major properties of the pants made from this pattern:
They train as your child feels comfortable when they are dry and feels wet therefore not that comfortable if they go potty in them.
They are waterproof. So they are very parents friendly. Look at the experiment I did with my kid's pants on our couch by pouring water in, not a single spot on sofa.
They are reusable, therefore your bank account and mother earth friendly. With this pattern, you can make as many pairs as you want and your child may use them for several months (at least that’s how long it took for my daughter to go potty on her own). Here is the math: if you use 3 disposable pants a day, it's 3 X 30.5 = 91.5 pants for a month, 549 pants for 6 month. You save hundreds of dollars on potty training by using these reusable pants. Not to mention the amount of trash you can avoid adding to landfill.

Lastly, as a parent, I do not recommend using disposable training pants as far as potty training is concerned because they don’t train. They defeat parents’ teaching input. Who wants to go potty if they already wear a disposable potty?

Important: You can make as many pairs of pants as you want to use or to give. Please do not share this DIY with anybody else or use it any other way. It is copy right material.

Any questions, convo me please.
