Extremely rare collector's item: Leigh Potters Art Deco Demitasse Cup & Saucer set, 1930s:

J. Palin Thorley's boxy Ultra shape & Gale Turnbull's Green Wheat design in lovely pale green on Umbertone (Leigh's trademark creamy beige semi-porcelain clay body) all trimmed in silvery platinum...this confluence of Roaring Twenties design masters resulted in this elegant yet earthy dinnerware as presented in this diminutive cup and saucer set.

The Ultra shape is nothing short of incredible: squared cups, gently curved at each corner, stair-step handles with a thick platinum racing stripe and several green lines hatched below each step, and balanced upon square, double-beveled feet…the saucers have slightly upturned corners, flat on one side and rounded on the other, with ziggurat notches highlighted with rich platinum trim...complete retro fabulosity!

This listing is for 1 each demitasse cup & saucer in the square Ultra shape; discounts available when purchasing more than 1; please inquire for details.

At time of listing, we have matching Demitasse Cups & Saucers in the round Ultra Moderne shape listed here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/100185389 (see last photo for a comparison of the shapes)

Please Note: We actively collect this (and other Leigh Ware patterns) and often have pieces on hand that are not yet listed in our shop, please inquire if interested.

:: Condition & Measurements ::

In overall good vintage condition, with occasional faint wear and general crazing (crackling of the clear overglaze) throughout; tiny nicks on the underside of the saucer corner notches are also occasionally present. Cups all have hairline cracks and would be perfect for display; some are watertight and could also be used.

Demitasse Cup - about 2.25” high [5.75cm]
Demitasse Saucer - 5” in diameter [12.6cm] - 1 has some spots of discoloration & teensy hairline underneath (we'll sell those in best condition first).

:: Care & Handling ::

As with any china with metallic embellishments, these pieces should not be used in microwaves, and we strongly recommend hand washing soon after use. If a piece has crazing on its inner surface, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, tea, beets, etc).

PLEASE NOTE: Vintage and antique dishes were often decorated with glazes containing varying amounts of lead, a toxic chemical. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure to lead when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; hand wash with a gentle detergent soon after use and allow to air dry.

PLEASE NOTE: We actively collect Leigh Ware patterns, and will be listing our finds on an ongoing basis; please see our Vintage Dinnerware China, Porcelain, Glass, Retro Plastique section for those, and other listings of fantastic Mid Century and Art Deco dinnerware:
