I love this graceful and intricately detailed old mine cut diamond ring! I purchased it directly from the grandson of the original owner in Chicago.....

Finely made in 18K white gold, this ring has a delicate look but is very sturdily made. It features three old, chunky and fiery mine cut diamonds, set amidst intricate filigree with milgrain detailing. The center stone is the larger of the three and it looks to be an early mine cut with very much of a cushion shape and a high table. It's approximately 3 mm x 3 mm in size, and with it's chunky cut I would estimate it to be somewhere in the neighborhood of .16 carats, or maybe a bit more...it really is rather chunky! It's got good color, estimated to be in the H-I range of near-colorless and is completely eye-clean as well as clean under my 14x loupe. It does have a small chip at one corner...it's not very noticeable at all.

The other two diamonds are also very chunky old mine cut diamonds, one is approximately 2.8 x 2.5 mm and the other is approximately 2.5 x 2.5 mm. I would judge them to be in the H-I-J range of near-colorless and they are also completely eye-clean. The smaller of these diamonds has a teeny tiny chip at one edge that can only be seen under magnification. All the prongs in this ring show wear and really need to be retipped to keep the diamonds safe and secure. (in fact the center diamonds looks like it has even shifted slightly in it's eight-sided, milgrain decorated setting. Thankfully, it has spent many years sitting patiently in it's box, and so none of the original stones have been lost.)

The filigree is in very good condition - I don't see any damages. It's graceful and scrolling and I love the pretty leaf design that extends from the face of the ring down each shoulder and part way down the band! The face of the ring measures approximately 14 x 20 mm and the rise off the finger is approximately 5 mm at it's highest point.

The band is slender and still very strong. It shows slight thinning at the very back where I believe it was once sized. It is still marked "18K" inside the band. The ring has a nice total weight of 2.65 grams.

Currently a size 4, this ring could be sized within reason by a good jeweler who is experienced with antique jewelry. (** Please read my policies page for information regarding sizing or feel free to convo me to discuss it or to obtain a quote from my trusted jeweler! I'm also happy to help locate a recommended jeweler in your area.)

The family member I bought this from says he always remembers his Grandmother keeping her ring in this box. (it was among her favorites.) His whole family is from Chicago and he thinks this is the orgiginal blue box. (I'm not sure that it is...I rather think the ring predates it.) It shows a lot of wear both on the outside and inside, including soiling on the inside top of the box. Inside in blue ink it reads: "Newman's Diamond Shop, 133 N. Clarke St., Chicago." It also has a pretty logo for the jewelry shop. I am happy to provide it in this box, or if you prefer it in a new ring box, please just let me know in the "notes to seller" box at checkout. You may also want to see the small but growing selection of antique and vintage boxes I am offering in the shop....

A lovely ring ready for it's newlife and home....

Please convo with any questions and Thanks for looking!
