Description

"Come On to the Baseball Game" is vintage sheet music from 1911 showing an eager young man in a straw hat grabbing his elegant "Gibson Girl" by the wrist and hurrying her off to the baseball game. Fans can been seen inside the wooden fence root, root, rooting for the home team. The girl has a spectacular hat! It's all done in shades of orange and blue.

The music was written by Lou. Sievers with lyrics by William A. Downs, and published by the Harold Rossiter Music Company of Chicago. The cover is beautifully drawn by Brotts-Crews Studios.

The song tells the story of little Freddie McCann and his sweet Molly. She'd rather go to the park and spoon, even though he promises to explain every play if she'll just come to the ball game with him (even the infield fly rule?).

The inside back cover has a sample of "Sighing," a "positive musical gem." The back cover is devoted to ads for the new song sensation "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" with the "most beautiful title-page ever printed on sheet music."

The folio is 6 pages including the covers and measures 10.25 x 13-5/8 inches (26.04 x 34.61 cm). A corner has been folded and the hinge is separated halfway. There is edge wear including small tears and an owner's signature in fountain pen.

This sheet music is complete and playable. Whether used to learn the song, decorate a piano, frame the cover, or create an art project, this scarce piece of vintage sheet music is a wonderful celebration of the early days of baseball.
