'Boules' is THE French game. Since it was created in 1907 in La Ciotat, in Provence, every single French generation has played it, from the hip youngsters on a sandy square sipping herbal tea to old men by the Seine river sipping red wine and complaining about the weather.

This colourful set of 'pétanque' balls is complete with its 8 'boules' and the 'cochonnet' (the little ball that you aim at, literally "the piglet").

It comes in a handy little plastic net suitcase to allow you to carry your boules set and amaze your friends with your knowledge of French society.

Although those balls are initially made for kids (the original metal boule weighs about 25 ounces!), anyone can have fun with those.

Pétanque is played in two teams and the goal is, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground, to throw your balls as close as possible to the 'cochonnet'. The winners are the ones who placed their 'boules' closest to the 'cochonnet'.
