Crazy cool record -- this is an original cardboard record of scary stories from the back of a cereal box from sometime in the 1970s.

These flexible records were offered on the backs of cereal boxes -- I remember having an Archies record as a kid. This one, however, features three spooky stories told by a Bela Legosi-like voice as well as haunted house sounds. I'm wondering if the reader was Larry Kenny, who did Lion-O on the 80s Thundercats cartoon but also did the voice of Count Chocula. I'm thinking this came off of a Count Chocula box, but I have no way of knowing -- maybe it was Honeycombs (Big, Big Taste.)

Whatever the case, I had to try playing this record. It popped and hissed, but that nostalgic distortion actually made it creepy -- it was hard to hear the words, but it played and didn't skip. Amazing!

If you remember these cereal box records, this is a great bit of nostalgia, but even if you don't, this is a great vintage Halloween or ghost story novelty.

I've protected your record in an archive-approved clear bag, but you will want to take it out and play it.

So cool.
